Angels - Rourkela 17

Today it is time to meet all the sponsored children that families here in the USA fund to go to school every day.

We have been doing this project for so many years. Some of the sponsoring families in the USA are on their second student Sponsorship because the first student had graduated.

For a student to go to a very good school every day in India is a dream for every Indian family. It costs money and that is one thing many people do not have. So through our Sponsorship Program it works out very well for many children.

School work in India is very hard with lots of homework and testing. Some of the students find it very hard. Getting help at home is very important as there is lots of homework every night but if your Mom and Dad did not get a good education it becomes even harder for the student.

What I look for is attendance on the Report Cards. My feeling is if you go to school every day you have to learn something plus you have to obey school rules like dressing in a uniform , and you also make many friends at school.

I met all the students from grades KG to grade 12 in the Convent hall. 19 of 20 of them as one boy had testing in a far away village and was unable to attend.
The Sisters set up the program that included a professional photographer to take all the photos for me to take home on a USB to make prints for everyone along with some sweets to eat and something to drink. The photos that you see today are what I took to give you a general Idea of how it all went.

I had all your letters to give to the children. Sister Flora who is the Head Provincial Sister called each name and the children walked to her to receive your letters and have their photo taken.

The students were also given a special writing pen that was donated to Angels. I told the kids if you can learn to write with this pen you can go a long way in life.

When the kids got your letters I watched the smiles on their faces as they read them and shared them with the other students. I noticed that many of you sent photos for the kids to look at. EVERYONE HAD HAPPY SMILES….

When it was time to say goodbye All the Students came to me and said Thank You. It was then that I asked Dinesh and his Sister Ashma to stay behind for a few minutes.

I asked Dinesh and Ashma (his Sister) to sit with the Sisters and myself for a few minutes and I gave Dinesh his beautiful jacket and pants from the Ruby Sports shop and the musical Flute and Harmonica that I bought at the Noise Factory for him as special.

I explained to Dinesh that I know you can not play all the sports games in the big field like the other kids do because of your handicap. My thoughts were while you are sitting and watching the boys play you could learn about music and learn to play the small musical instruments that I bought for you. I know that you can do most anything so learning how to play nice music will not be a problem for you.. I could see in Dinesh’s eyes that he was very happy and that Ashma was excited for him.

Soon afterwards Dinesh went back to his school and Ashma went to her school. Both kids were very Happy when they left the hall …

Thanks everyone for your help . It was really a nice time for all the children to always remember..

The sponsorships cost between $225 and $425 per year if anyone is interested.
