If you remember late last year I was given what seemed like a million writing Pens and Hats from a person named Karen. I was given so many Hats and writing Pens that I was able to send them to a village school in Nepal and also make a shipment to Rourkela, India. Today, I would like to update all of you with the 2nd shipment that was sent to Rourkela, India.

It took about 6 weeks but the heavy box arrived at the Principal’s office (Sister Sujata) St Joseph Convent School in Rourkela, India. The Daughters of the Cross Sisters and school workers opened the big box right on Sister Sujata’s desk in her office. Everyone was very happy to receive the Hats and writing Pens. Let me tell you one thing about the Daughters of the Cross Sisters. The Sisters all work together no matter what the project is, large or small and every Sister always gives their Best effort to make everything right.

The hats and pens were distributed to St Joseph Primary School Girl School and St Joseph Girls High School in Hamirpur, Rourkela by Sister Anna Mary and other Daughters of the Cross Sisters and the school Teachers.

Sister Anna Mary also sent pens to two other schools in the area. One is a school for young College Girls who one day may become a Daughters of the Cross Sister, looked after by Sister Prafulla (Sister Joy) and another school was the Boys High School in Hamirpur, Rourkela looked after by Father Rajkumar.

You may be wondering what is so special about a hat and a writing pen ? With a hat with a wide brim you can be shaded from the hot sun playing or working outside. With a writing pen you can dream, draw a picture or write a story or letter. It can be used as a tool for education.

Walt Disney was down on his luck at one time and he had a pen to dream and draw pictures . Look what he accomplished in his lifetime and to think it all started with a dream and a writing pen.

Below you will see a few photos sent to me from Sister Anna Mary . It was a very small but important project for children and it started here with all of us and it extended all the way to the School classrooms of India . Sister Anna Mary did write one thing about the Pens and Hats that I want to share with you.

Dear Mr.Ray, pen given out in big blue school class VI students. They were very happy to receive the pens from Foreign, and also the hats from America. I also had enough new pens to give to the teachers. Everyone was very Happy.
