Steve Powers Park – India 2025

Steve Powers Park – India 2025

6th February 2025 is the day our Friend and Board of Directors Member, Steve Powers, passed away. Steve was a hard worker to help all children everywhere.

When Steve passed away Feb 6, 2025 his family had all donations in lieu of flowers directed to be given to Children are Angels from Heaven. I received donations from as far away as Florida and Colorado in Steve’s Memory. Everyone loved Steve. He was a friend to everyone and helped everyone that he could throughout his entire life.
I kept Steve’s funds in our Children are Angels from Heaven bank account and had my eyes open for a special project to do in Steve’s Memory.

As many of you know I do a lot of work with the Daughters of the Cross Sisters in India. The Sisters are all very good to work with and no matter the project we do together , they look after every detail to make everything perfect.
It is funny how things work out sometimes. Soon after Steve’s passing . On Feb 22, 2025 I received a letter from Principal Sister Josline of the Daughters of the Cross Sisters asking for some help at her school regarding play equipment for the children. It came at a perfect time as I was on the lookout for a good project in Memory of Steve.
Sister Josline and I agreed to have a new playground made at her school in Orissa, India in Memory of Steve and naming it Steve Powers Park. Both of us were very happy about this new venture together and moved forward with everything.

Sister Josline got estimates for the new equipment and we were on our way with the project but Sister Josline ran across a huge problem.

The heavy Monsoon rains came to her area in Orissa and the Project was delayed for about 5 months. In my photos you will see the children going to school in the rains and how the school yard was flooded with water. Sister and I talked about the water problem and it was decided to move the area to have the playground built, further away from the school on the high ground of a hill. You will see the area in my photos.
After the rains went away and everything dried up the day finally came to clear and level the ground for the new playground everything was done by hand.

Then the day finally came that everyone was waiting for , all the playground equipment was delivered in a small truck and it was then that the playground was off loaded , assembled and cemented into the ground.

Steve Powers Park, Children are Angels from Heaven, Boston was painted on the long brick wall just behind the playground that surrounds the school property.

A few days later the children were allowed to go to the playground for the very first time. It was a very happy moment for everyone , Sister Josline and all the Daughters of the Cross Sisters, the Teachers and most of all the children.
I am sure that even you too will be Happy to look at the photos in this mail, and understand the happiness of everyone at that playground in Memory of a Wonderful man named Steve Powers.

Please look at all the photos and read the mails ..If anyone has any questions please feel free to contact me Rayo8989@aol.com

I am responsible and accountable for everything ..
Thank all of you for your help and support.

God Bless Steve Powers, He will always be missed by many people.

Dear Mr. Ray

I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. My name is Sr. Josline FC and I am Principal at Joseph’s Convent School. I am reaching out to share the story of our school and request your kind support for our children, who are in need of proper games equipment to enhance their educational experience.

Murkia is a remote village where families face significant economic challenges. The primary occupation here is agriculture, and many parents, though not highly educated, are deeply committed to ensuring that their children receive a proper education. Joseph’s Convent School was established on July 1, 2010, in response to the requests of local families who wanted educational opportunities for their children. Since our founding, we have grown rapidly and now serve approximately 210 students, ranging from class 1 to class 8.

A significant portion of our students—around 60%—come from tribal backgrounds, which presents unique challenges and opportunities. While we have made great strides in providing quality education, our resources remain limited, particularly regarding extracurricular activities that are vital for the holistic development of our children.
We are fortunate to have a playground, but we lack the necessary games equipment to foster a vibrant and engaging environment for physical activity. Engaging in sports and games not only promotes physical health but also teaches valuable life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and perseverance.

We are kindly seeking your support to help us acquire essential games equipment for our students, for which we have estimated a cost of 300,000/- (three lakhs rupees). Your generous contribution will make a significant difference in the lives of our children, providing them access to activities that promote learning, joy, and personal growth.
In return for your generosity, we would be more than happy to recognize your support within our school community, perhaps through a plaque or signage that celebrates your commitment to enhancing educational opportunities for the children of Murkia.
We sincerely hope you consider our request. Your support could change the trajectory of our students’ lives, and we would be forever grateful for your kindness and generosity.

Thank you for considering our proposal. Please feel free to reach out to me. if you have any questions or need further information. I look forward to the possibility of partnering with you in this vital initiative.

Warm regards,
Sr. Josline kindo

Our school reopened on 5th January, and the children are now preparing for their final
